Can We Talk Heart To Heart?

HAPPY HEART HEALTH MONTH

With Valentine's Day just a few days away and because this is heart health awareness month, love and hearts are on my mind, and I wanted to shine a light on some of the people and orgs committed to uplifting ours. I just learned (yes, I likely slept through that class) that our hearts beat over 100,000 times per day! The only other thing I do that many times a day is lose my phone, so it's no joke. To quote my friend and famed cardiologist Dr. Dean Ornish, "Connections with other people affect not only the quality of our lives but also our survival." This is the perfect week to reaffirm your love and gratitude to your significant other, family members, and/or friends. Let me be the first to do so... I am thankful you are here, both literally and metaphysically.

With appreciation, Zem & team

WE ARE ENOUGH

Despite all of his success, TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie never felt like he was enough. After he got help, he set out to shift the narrative of media. The beautifully made bracelets are a subtle but powerful signal of the truth: WE ARE ENOUGH (100% of profits are donated to mental health orgs)

DRUG’D UP

If you love a juicy podcast, Drug Story by Thomas Goetz is just what the doctor ordered. It explores the business of disease and medicine through the histories of prescription drugs such as EpiPens, Lipitor, and Ozempic. Think of it as the sordid step bother of How I Built This.

YOUNG HEARTED

Vero Bioscience launched at Near Future last year, and TIME just called them a pioneering company in the race to measure biological aging. Co-founders Paul Coletta and Tony Wyss-Coray's blood tests help clinicians determine the age of their patient's organs. Read the article here.

PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE

Congratulations to Nora LaTorre and the brilliant team at Eat Real for feeding over 1 million students. Their partnership with over 57 school districts across the country has provided students access to REAL nourishing food to support happy and healthy learning. It warms my heart.
